Seal’s Milk - The Harbour or Common Seal – Lac phoca vitulina (2000)

Master Prover: Boris Peisker
Translated into English from the German by Heiko Schwardtmann
Keynote Essence: If I struggle I will survive

Themes:

  • Punch/Stick/Beaten
  • Personal space
Individual space is very important to the seal. Direct contact is unusual. Unlike other species of seal, the harbour seal uses a sandbank rather than a rocky outcrop in the ocean as a rookery. On the sandbank the distance between them is at least 1.3 metres. Peisker reports that if that distance is not respected, minor conflicts occur.
  • Wheelchair/Legs gone
Unlike similar amphibious creatures that use traditional rookeries to nest (such as penguins) the seal has no inferior appendage that can assist it while on land.
  • Dimensions/perspective altered due to a drugged-like state
  • Addiction: drugs; gambling
  • Disorientation......dreaming or awake?
  • Danger of drowning

According to Peisker it is believed by the people of Ruegen (a German island in the Baltic Sea) that seals have derived from drowned humans.
